This will be my last post, (because this is due) but I will not spare you from looking at the games against the San Diego Pares, who were swept this past weekend in PETCO Park, where they won 11 straight games at that particular venue. Let's check it out...
Game 1:
Phillies starting pitcher Roy Oswalt helped bring victory for the Phillies by allowing only one run in six innings, might I add scoreless innings. Oswalt threw a total of 106 pitches Thursday night.
While pitching to the Padres' first baseman, Jorge Cantu, in the fourth inning, Oswalt threw a new pitch to him before he fouled away eight straight pitches (actually nine pitches total) before striking out on a slider with a 3-2 count.
Oswalt claims that this slider a different way than normally, and he "spiked it."
Both Ben Francisco and Brian Schneider hit home runs in the second inning, giving the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Francisco also hit a sacrifice fly ball which lead to an RBI for Placido Polonco to score in the third inning.
Phillies win 3-0.
Game 2:
Ryan Howard hit a two-run triple in the third inning, scoring the only two runs in this ballgame, shutting out the Padres again in a 2-0 win, Friday night.
Cole Hamels pitched 8 straight innings before being taken out in the 9th with Ryan Madson stepping in to save the game.
Game 3:
San Diego looked like there was a chance of beating the Phils in game 3 of a 4 game series in San Diego Saturday night. The Padres were the first on the scoreboard when Jason Bartlett tripled, hitting a fly ball to
Shane Victorino in center field letting Cameron Maybin score after hitting a single right before.
Jimmy Rollins (who was walked to first) ended up heading home because of an RBI triple by Ben Francisco. making it a close game in the 4th inning .
Maybin also scores again when Nick Hundley hit a double into the left field for an RBI in the bottom of the
5th inning.
The game remained tied into the ninth inning, going into 3 extra innings.
The tie was broken and the Phillies were victorious finally in the 11th inning when Ryan Howard hit a double allowing both Rollins and Polanco to score, making the 4-2 win over the Padres.
Game 4:
The Phillies continued the sweep over the San Diego Padres one more time Easter Sunday winning 3-1.
Roy Halladay tied his career high of 14 strikeouts yesterday. He allowed five hits, one walk, and one run in a total of 8 2/3 innings.
A single hit by Ben Francisco allows Jimmy Rollins to score after being on base, scoring a run. Sfter Francisco John Mayberry Jr also hitting a line drive double giving Howard the ability to score all in the 6th inning.
Shane Victorino hit an inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning, creating a 3-0 lead over the Padres, however a run was scored in the bottom of the ninth by Jason Bartlett after Will Venable of the Padres hit a ground ball which singled into center field, making the final score of the game 3-1.
Thank you so much to everyone for reading, commenting and following!
