Phillies Sweep Padres!

Hey phans,
This will be my last post, (because this is due) but I will not spare you from looking at the games against the San Diego Pares, who were swept this past weekend in PETCO Park, where they won 11 straight games at that particular venue. Let's check it out...

Game 1:
Phillies starting pitcher Roy Oswalt helped bring victory for the Phillies by allowing only one run in six innings, might I add scoreless innings.  Oswalt threw a total of 106 pitches Thursday night.

While pitching to the Padres' first baseman, Jorge Cantu, in the fourth inning, Oswalt threw a new pitch to him before he fouled away eight straight pitches (actually nine pitches total) before striking out on a slider with a 3-2 count.
Oswalt claims that this slider a different way than normally, and he "spiked it."

Both Ben Francisco and Brian Schneider hit home runs in the second inning, giving the Phillies a 2-0 lead.  Francisco also hit a sacrifice fly ball which lead to an RBI for Placido Polonco to score in the third inning.

Phillies win 3-0.

Game 2:
Ryan Howard hit a two-run triple in the third inning, scoring the only two runs in this ballgame, shutting out the Padres again in a 2-0 win, Friday night.
Cole Hamels pitched 8 straight innings before being taken out in the 9th with Ryan Madson stepping in to save the game.

Game 3:
San Diego looked like there was a chance of beating the Phils in game 3 of a 4 game series in San Diego Saturday night.  The Padres were the first on the scoreboard when Jason Bartlett tripled, hitting a fly ball to
Shane Victorino in center field letting Cameron Maybin score after hitting a single right before.

Jimmy Rollins (who was walked to first) ended up heading home because of an RBI triple by Ben Francisco.  making it a close game in the 4th inning .

Maybin also scores again when Nick Hundley hit a double into the left field for an RBI in the bottom of the
5th inning.
The game tied in the 6th inning when Jimmy Rollins singles allowing Pete Orr to get home and score.
The game remained tied into the ninth inning, going into 3 extra innings.
The tie was broken and the Phillies were victorious finally in the 11th inning when Ryan Howard hit a double allowing both Rollins and Polanco to score, making the 4-2 win over the Padres.

Game 4:
The Phillies continued the sweep over the San Diego Padres one more time Easter Sunday winning 3-1.
Roy Halladay tied his career high of 14 strikeouts yesterday.  He allowed five hits, one walk, and one run in a total of 8 2/3 innings.
A single hit by Ben Francisco allows Jimmy Rollins to score after being on base, scoring a run.  Sfter Francisco John Mayberry Jr also hitting a line drive double giving Howard the ability to score all in the 6th inning.
Shane Victorino hit an inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning, creating a 3-0 lead over the Padres, however a run was scored in the bottom of the ninth by Jason Bartlett  after Will Venable of the Padres hit a ground ball which singled into center field, making the final score of the game 3-1.

Thank you so much to everyone for reading, commenting and following!
Let's all hope for a World Series Victory!! Good luck to the Philadelphia Phillies for a great remaining season!

Brewers Defeat

GAME 1 :

So the losing streak of first game is still effective this past week against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies lose the first game on Monday April 18 at Citizens Bank Park with a score of 3-6.  Brewers closing pitcher, John Axford, let the Phillies score the one run they needed.  The game went into an extra three innings with a score of 3-3.  No runs were scored in the 10th or 11th inning, but Phillies pitcher ,Kyle Kendrick, allowed the Brewers to score three runs in the 12th.  After the three runs scored, the final score was 6-3 Brewers, and not even dollar dog night in CBP could cheer up fans.

GAME 2:
Shut out...that's all i'm going to say.
A loss of 9-0 to the Brewers in game to, and many believe that pitching ace to the Phillies, Roy Halladay wasn't pitching up to par on Tuesday night's game.  Halladay went 6 and 2/3 innings deep until sent in for allowing 10 hits, 6 of the hits being runs to score. Leaving the total as 9-0. Pretty damn disappointing if you ask me.  Charlie Manuel does not seem to be in a good mood over the current loses, and makes it clear we are not in 2008 anymore.
This is where Chase Utley is missed the most, and I'm sure every fan is awaiting the triumphant return....whenever that day will be? We all miss you, Chase!!

GAME 3:
Phillies take the last game in the three day series with a score of 4-3.  Thats 's not a terrific win, but it's a win right, and that's all that technically matters.  Brewers pitcher Chris Narveson pitched 4 2/3 innings without any hits against Cliff Lee.  Well this was until Placido Polonco hits a rome-run with a fly ball into left field.  This homer allows Wilson Valdez and Shane Victorino to score in the bottom of the 6th inning.  This ties up the game 3-3 until Victorino saves the day in the bottom of the 8th inning when he hits the winning run out into right center field and going into the stands of ecstatic "phans."  Phillies win the final game with a one-run lead of 4-3.

Shane Victorino hits game-winning home run in the 8th inning.

Next off to play San Diego from Thursday until Sunday in San Diego....
Let's Go Phillies!

2 game series against the Florida Marlins

The past first games in the last few series have been defeats for the Phillies. They then win the next two games, winning the overall games.  Hopefully tonight's game changes things.
Cliff Lee got roughed up on Friday in the first game against the Marlins in Florida at Turner Field.  He along with the rest of the team spotted Florida a three-run lead in the second inning, but he allowed 10 hits and six runs in just 3 1/3 innings to lose it.  This defeat was Lee's worst since 2009.

The first three runs in the game were scored in the first and second innings, two in the first and one in the second.

Saturdays game was postponed due to weather conditions.

Last night's game was a victory over the Marlins. winning by a score of 3-2.
The outcome of Sunday's game was decided in the 8th inning by Carlos Ruiz, who sacrificed a fly to center field allowing Ryan Howard to score, giving them a one run lead.
Polanco hit the first run of the game, hitting a home-run in the bottom of the first.

Ruiz sacrificing a fly giving Ryan Howard opportunity to score

Phillies vs. Nationals Series

The Phillies overtook Jayson Werth and the Washington Nationals last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at National's Park.
Since I forgot to blog each game, I'm just going to recap the series briefly and move on to the next ga.mes....like the one that was on tonight. (Sorry, Dr. Green!)

Tuesday night, the Phillies lost to the Nationals by three scored runs of a  of 4-7 game. Joe Blanton struggled through the game while Livan Hernandez kept the Phillies down for almost 7 innings.

Ex-Phillies' player, Jayson Werth, went 2 for 3, while hitting a home-run and a double in the first game.  Ryan Howard also hit a home-run, hitting his third this season.

The second game, the Phillies took victory by one run in a 3-2 game.  The Nationals scored their only runs in the 9th inning to Roy Halladay, but since the Phillies had 3 runs, they needed an extra run to tie it.
Shutting out the Nationals 4-0, the Phillies overtook the series.
Cliff Lee pitched fabulously by  pitching a three -hit shutout, with 12 total strikeouts. Lee completed the game with his sixth shutout during his baseball career. In the 6th inning, Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz hit the leadoff home run to left field, making the score 1-0.  Another run was scored in the same inning and two were scored in the 8th inning making the final score of the game 4-0.

Shane Victorino Isn't Holding Back

In the last game verses the Atlanta Braves, Shane Victorino helps clinch the series, defeating them 3-0. Victorino has been nothing but contact in the game, hitting another home-run in the 6th inning.

But he's not the only one on fire, Cole Hamels pitched the 3-0 win, allowing only four hits and one walk striking out eight in seven innings without a score.

In an interview in mlb.com, Hamels states, "I've been booed many times," he said. "It's part of the game. I'm not trying to go out and lose a ballgame. I'll never try to do that. Sometimes you just aren't able to have things go well and have things go right. You learn from it, and you try to get better. If you get that response, it's the understanding that people know that you're good and they expect you to do well."

With a 7-2 start to the season, it seems like the Phillies will go far this year.  Heading down to Washington DC to play the Washington Nationals on Tuesday at 7:05p.m.

Phillies vs. Braves

Yesterday's 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves didn't seem to phase the Phillies today.  Roy Oswalt took the mound for six innings for his second regular-season, and first regular-season win over the Braves today.  But it wasn't just Oswalt's pitching that caused the 10-2 victory.  Brian Schneider hit a home-run in the 4th inning, while Carlos Ruiz, or  as many like to call him, "Chooch," made his first ever pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning and hitting an RBI double in the 8th inning gave the team nothing to worry about.

not the best quality, but just incase you missed it!

A Brief History

I've decided to begin this blog with a post about the history of the Philadelphia Phillies.  The team was originally known as the Quakers, and in 1883, they weren't as "phan-omenal" winning only 17 games out of 98 games in the series.  The Philadelphia team was beginning to be known as the "Phils."  After a terrible first several years, the team name changed and they were now the Phillies in 1890.

Years pass, the team fluctuates between mediocre and alright.  The only great importances I should mention is that they won the World Series in 1980, and also in 2008 which everyone can remember.
Appearing in the world series last year, but sadly falling a little short of victory.

This is only a fraction of everything the Phillies have became today.  Check out this timeline where I gathered this info!
